CORTNEY REN'AE: SO TELL US ABOUT YOUR MUSIC CAREER SO FAR?

It has been quite a bumpy road. I began singing solo when I was fifteen years old, it was not until my senior year in high school that I realized I could actually pursue it as a career. I had no idea where to possibly start so I began looking for a producer to create orignal music. I found one and he was nice but I wasn't completely happy with the result. I moved on to a second group of producers, again, I was not happy. It was not until I found Jonathan George that I was truly comfortable and felt good about the end result. We worked together for several months on three songs. Since I am currently an unsigned artist, I funded the studio fees, which was a whole other feat on its own. Soon after working with Jonathan, I was referred to my, now manager, Brand. He's been a great guiding force in my career thus far and I am always thankful for his advice regarding the music and entertainment industry. Along the way I've learned that the people you work best with always create the best music.

CORTNEY REN'AE: WHAT IS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND YOUR MUSIC?

I believe that in life, experience inspires everything. Every success and mistake that has lead up to any one point in life attributes to one's inspiration. My music is inspired by the love of performance. I have been performing since I was two years old and it's always been something that's close to me. I love the feeling of being on stage and singing to a live audience because you cannot take anything back. I love the connection with the audience and and being able to see their reactions to my singing. It's my wish that people who watch me sing, will always want to join in, whether they are singing, dancing, or just smiling because their involement is what inspires me to create new music.

If I could collaborate with any artist I would work with Bruno Mars. I love the tone of his voice and I like how all the songs on his current album are very different. Aside from him, there are so many other artists that I admire and would love to work with in my future.

CORTNEY REN'AE: FROM EXPERIENCE, WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE ASPIRING TO BE A PROFESSIONAL SINGER?

My advice to any aspiring singer is to set small goals for yourself in order to achieve your dreams. There are so many small steps in the journey to becoming an artist, recognize those first and cross them off your list one at a time. Before you know it you'll have grown so much as a singer and individual. You will be amazed at the success you can achieve by writing down your goals and working to accomplish them one by one. Always remember that it is not an overnight thing. Quality work takes time, so never let yourself become discouraged by set backs or obstacles.
